3 exciting days in Portofino
Excellent weather conditions for the weekend of the SIAD-Bombola d'Oro Trophy, allowed the regatta committee to conclude the Trophy with 6 regattas, all characterized by light wind conditions and therefore very technical and hard-fought.
Overall victory for Francesco ‘Paco’ Rebaudi, able to correctly interpret the regatta course and who with his Kinnor hit an impressive string of results (15,1,2,4,4,1) and was therefore awarded the SIAD-Bombola d'Oro Trophy.
In second place the fearsome pair Andrea Falciola - Superpippo (5.11,1,1,8,5) which leaves behind for only 3 points Vittorio D'Albertas on-board his Lazy Behemot (10,2,5,3, 6,7), who started this morning strong of a first and a second place with equal score. Also Vittorio D'Albertas won the special extraction prize: a check to be allocated to the Fondazione Tender To Nave Italia Onlus.
In fourth place Filippo Jannello with Cicci and Paolo Viacava and Mailin who, for the 2018 edition, after winning the Trophy 14 times, gives up and closes his 3 days of regattas in 5th place.
In 2018, Maria Elena Balestrieri, on-board Terra e Mare, wins the prize for the female quotas of the Class, in front of Francesca Lodigiani who lost the title in yesterday's regatta due to a ‘technical problem’.
The Giovanni Falck Challenge Trophy was won by the dream team composed of Filippo Jannello, Paolo Viacava and Enrico Negri that achieved the best result in the overall standings.
Always Filippo Jannello and Cicci won the Challenge Master 65 Trophy, in front of Vincenzo Penagini and Attilio Carmagnani. Great test for Gaetano Allodi, very fast with his Bonaldhino, who won the Super Master Over 75 prize. From fiberglass to wood: the SIAD-Bombola d'Argento Trophy reserved for classic boats was awarded to Alberto Patrone with Damina (4,46,16,33,16,23) followed by Fabio Mangione with Nashira and Toni Anghileri on-board Absolutely Free.
The SIAD-Bombola d’Oro Trophy remains an occasion not to be missed for all dinghy sailors. Firstly for the spectacular race field and territory, and also for the hospitality of SIAD which, last night, invited almost 500 guests to the traditional gala dinner at the pier, preceded by an aperitif on the terrace of the Yacht Club Italiano.
The SIAD-Bombola d’Oro Trophy is organized by Yacht Club Italiano with the partnership of the SIAD Group, which operates in the industrial gases, healthcare, LPG and natural gas sectors, and with the collaboration of the Santa Margherita Ligure Sailing Club and Circolo Nautico Rapallo. The regatta is held under the patronage of the Municipalities of Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure and Rapallo.
The Dinghy Class
The Italian 12’ Dinghy Class Association, founded in 1969 and recognized by the Italian Sailing Federation, has 299 members and over 600 sailing boats including wooden hulls, fiberglass hulls and wood and fiberglass hulls, both recently built and vintage. The great attraction of this boat is given by the fact that wooden and fiberglass boats can sail together: the recently launched dinghies built in wood have even the same performance as a fiberglass hull. The ranking list of this class has almost 250 helmsmen. Dinghy is a boat of great charm, technical and elegant, capable of evolving while remaining itself.
Designed by George Cockshott in 1913, it is just over 3 meters long and uses the power of the wind on the single large lugsail
